I guess that I am, and always will be, a fierce competitor for as long as I live. I feed on it, and thrive on it. It's just the way that I am built. However, I don't love competition this much because I love to lose. No, no, no. On the contrary I love to win and not lose. Am I a sore loser when I do lose? No, but I am probably more hard on myself than most. This drives me to strive to get even better at that area in which I lost. I feel that all winners hate losing. They may not say it on the TV interview, but trust me they hate it. If they didn't then they would be losers themselves, or mediocre at best. Even in tough times I know that the cream rises to the top. That is why in business, and in life, I am always tightening up my game. In a constant quest to find the next niche, or be on the front of the next wave.
In the internet arena, I feel that the front of the wave is a website in which to publish yourself in an over the top way. A blogging website is where it's all going. Big fancy websites that can't be changed, and updated on the fly, are what I call "90s technology". They may look nice, but are the past not the future.Yes everybody blogs today, well almost everybody, but how many even know how to do it the right way? Real professional, compelling blogging is an art in my opinion. Yes I said it. Great blogging is an art, no less than fine writing is. But blogging on the web is much different than writing well. It's geting the message out, that people can relate to in a clean, crisp, and interesting way. It is an art to capture an audience's attention, and have them want to follow you as they wonder what your gonna write next. There are many ways to blog, but only one correct way.
In business having a following audience equates to notoriety. This element then equates to the generation of friends, opportunities, money, business growth etc... You may be the best broker on the planet, but if nobody knows about you then what good is it? If you blog on a generic blogging site, that everybody else and their uncle are using, how can you separate yourself from the pack. How can you "blow away the competition" when you are doing exacty what the competition is also doing?
The key here is to not be following the pack as the pack is usually two steps behind the leader, or "the winner". Ride the front of the wave and not the back. Just because 98% of people do business a certain way does not mean that you have to follow. I prefer to be placed in the chosen 2% of the people, "in the know", that are constantly evolving and tweeking their strategies, as people and business evolve. I prefer not to use 2001 business and web development practices to build my company. Rather I choose to use cutting edge 2010 and beyond ideas, and technology, that speak large volumes to sharp, sleek, edgy, custom design and technology.
One of my favorite things to do is to see an outdated website or template, and realize how warn out and dull it is as the coding is ancient. That, or it's just another one of those cheap templates that someone is trying to pass off as a custom website. What's funnier is that sometimes when I point this fact out the prospect will say, "Its working fine for me". I feel sorry for this person as they don't know how much more biz they would have if they only knew, and corrected, what they were doing wrong. Better yet if they were open minded enough to be educated to what they should be doing. Simple fact is that old program codes are very hard for search engine spiders, and bots, to recognize and pick up. So the people that are doing online searches are missing this website entirely, and landing on an updated website that has optimal search engine capabilities, as well as having the newest code integration.
Having a bad web presence in today's world quells everything else a person is doing to promote their business. They may be working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, and yet they are driving a car with the safety brake on. Seriously it is like having a fast car, but driving with the safety brake on. This costs businesses thousands and thousands of unrealized revenue year after year without them knowing it. Again people don't know what they don't know.
Don't Date Yourself or Your Biz with "Out of Date" Technology and Ideas:
Rock Stars in business are no accident! They are always working hard, but they are also working smart. They are not following the other guy, but rather they march to the beat of their own drum. They are always looking to get a leg up on the competition. They are not trying to use bath tub technology in today's business arena. I always like to ask prospects if they still use an old outdated cell phone, Walkman, and TV that they had ten or fifteen years ago. If one would not use old, or sub par technology for entertainment purposes, then why on earth would they use old, worn technology for their bread and butter, their business? That's one to think about huh?
Again there are usually several ways to do or accomplish something, but there is usually only one way to do it right.....
